When you think of Reno, Nevada, the first things that might come to mind are its lively casinos and vibrant nightlife. But beyond the glitz and glamour, Reno harbors some hidden treasures that promise unique experiences for both locals and visitors alike. Let me introduce you to two of my favorite spots: the retro-chic Best Bet Motor Lodge and the serene Reno Sauna Club. These gems are perfect for a memorable stay-cation or a refreshing escape, which is why they were the first spot that Madison Macay and I covered together in our KRNV News 4 Hidden Hotspots segment (click to watch).
Best Bet Motor Lodge: A Nostalgic Journey
Nestled in the heart of Midtown on South Virginia Street, the Best Bet Motor Lodge is your ticket to a bygone era. With its retro vibe and charming decor, this motor lodge, which opened its doors in May 2024, has quickly become a beloved retreat for those yearning for a nostalgic getaway. I love how Piper and her husband (who also own The Jesse on 4th Street) brought new life to this old building. Right in the heart of Midtown, it’s the perfect alternative to casinos if that’s not your vibe and you’re walking distance to some of my favorite Reno bars.
Unwind at the Reno Sauna Club
Right in the Best Bet’s parking lot, you’ll find the Reno Sauna Club, offering sanctuary from the city’s hustle and bustle. It’s a small, well-designed space with peaceful music playing, two saunas at different temperatures (one of which is in a refurbished air stream) and a cold water plunge shower. Don’t miss out on their Sauna Club Special—2 for $30 on Tuesdays and Sundays—making it an affordable luxury that you simply can’t pass up. And I hear they are planning for classes like healing sound bowl sessions. So, keep your eyes peeled.
The Best Bet Motor Lodge and Reno Sauna Club offer more than just a place to stay or relax—they provide an experience. As Reno continues to evolve, these hidden hotspots offer a glimpse into the city’s dynamic landscape, seamlessly blending the old with the new.
