In recent years, the world of fashion has undergone a significant transformation, with an increasing emphasis on inclusivity and body positivity. (And let’s be honest, it still has a LONG way to go.) One sportswear brand that has stepped up to the plate is adidas, a globally renowned company that balances fitness and lifestyle looks. Recently, they reached out to gift me a few plus size adidas pieces to try, and as I was trying the clothes, I wanted to dig into their history of offering plus size athletic wear a bit more.

The Launch of adidas Plus Size Clothing
Adidas launched its first plus size collection back in 2019 in collaboration with Universal Standard. They weren’t exactly first up at the plate to be size inclusive, but I am glad to report that there is an extensive collection of items up to a size 4X from the classic 3-Stripe Brand. This, of course, includes their IvyPark collaboration with the Queen—Beyonce.

Until 2023, I hadn’t worn adidas clothes since I wore straight sizes (well over 10 years). I went for a looser fit and chose a 4X in all my sports bras, hoodies, dresses and sweatpants. But as a 44DD/size 22-24, I probably could have gone for a 3X in certain stretchy items for a more fitted look.
